Times are hard. Almost everyone is being crunched in some way in the current climate and the strengthening Euro makes Spanish goods ever more expensive. Everyone’s tightening their belts.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t unwind and have a whale of a time on holiday in Barcelona. With low cost carriers Easyjet and Ryanair providing cheap access to Barcelona and Girona respectively and the usual host of hotel offers available, getting here has never been cheaper.

Calçots are in season again – the wonderful, messy onion/leek cross that is a Catalan speciality is back in season and available at restaurants across the city.
Drown them in Romesco sauce, lift them above your mouth and suck out the oniony innards. Not for those who prefer knife and fork eating – don’t forget the bib that’s usually provided before you tuck in.
Try L’Antic Forn in the backstreets of Raval where they are a speciality.
